Don Benningfield is Managing Partner of Pangaea Advisors. With over 15 years of experience in the advisement of institutional clients and hedge funds on workouts, restructuring, and acquisitions up and down the capital stack. As a former Managing Director of BlackRock, Inc., Don managed all P&L functions including acquisitions and asset management. He has consummated over $350 billion of transactions. Clients have included large-cap REITs, central banks, pension funds, insurance companies, and private firms. With additional experience in corporate financing, risk management, capital markets, valuations and credit underwriting, Don possesses the capability to advise and lead a wide scope of institutional functions.
At BlackRock, Don served as the subject matter expert responsible for risk assessment, portfolio management, repositioning and disposition of client commercial real estate exposures, managing and leading diverse project teams executing key client mandates and initiatives globally including successfully advising, underwriting, restructuring, and disposing of the Maiden Lane real estate portfolio on behalf of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, performing bankruptcy wind downs, and executing real estate asset quality reviews and portfolio management mandates for overseas financial institutions and central banks.
During his time at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Don held multiple leadership roles covering a wide range of investment banking, capital formation, product, and capital markets transactions in addition to serving in various risk management, board, ownership, and advisory roles.
